The Biotechnology and Germplasm Resources Institute, Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, has  the major research-- exploration and utilization of agricultural and biological resources in Yunnan Province. The institute  has  research fields relevant to the application of conservation biology of crop resources, molecular biology of crop resources, applied plant virology, crop biotechnology breeding, functional food crops and distinctive edible and medicinal fungi. The aim of these researches is to strengthen the development of bio-agricultural industry in Yunnan plateau. It has built important research platforms such as the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Biotechnology of Yunnan Province, and the Key Laboratory of Southwestern Crop Gene Resources and Germplasm Innovation of China Ministry of Agriculture. The institute has two  scientific and technological innovation teams of Yunnan Province, as well as one of China Ministry of Agriculture. Since the 12th Five-Year Plan, it has got  important 17 research projects including 973 program, 863 program, 948 program of China, and other national key R & D projects, 46 projects of national natural science foundation of China (including 3 key projects of the NSFC-Yunnan joint fund). The institute has three principal scientists, one comprehensive experiment station of the national modern agricultural industry technology system of China  Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Also the institute has got,  other nine key and major projects of Yunnan Province and China Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.The institute has won 17 national, provincial or ministerial awards for scientific and technological achievements:  including 3 second-grade prizes for national scientific and technological progress, 1 first-grade prize for chinese agricultural science and technology, 1 first-gradeass prize for science and technology awarded by China Ministry of Education and 1 first-grade prize for technology awarded by Yunnan Province. The institute has published 546 research papers including 149 SCI papers and 40 books. The institute has got thirty-two invention patents, twenty-one utility model patents and one computer software copyright,eighteen new plant varieties rights, three national crop varieties, twenty-three national non-major crop varieties, and fifty-seven  Yunnan provincial varieties, one national standard, one agricultural industry standard and eight local standards. The transfer and application of the scientific results provide a strong guarantee for the development of significant bio-industry in Yunnan and other provinces. This work would also support precise poverty alleviation and rural revitalization of Yunnan.
